I am pleased to announce that, our paper on the Conservation of energy in the Direct Numerical Simulation of multiphase flows has been accepted to the upcoming 18th Multiphase Flow and Short Course and Conference organized by the Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf. The conference will be held between 8-12 November 2021 and will be online.

In this talk, I will discuss the advantages of the conservation of energy for the numerical simulation of multiphase flows. At the discrete level, the conservation of energy implies preserving the (skew-)symmetries of the different differential operators involved in the Navier-Stokes equations in the construction of their numerical discretizations. This has proven invaluable for the numerical simulation of turbulent flows.

Together with professor Verstappen, we believe that by adopting an energy-preserving formulation, we can improve the numerical techniques for the study of complex multiphase flow problems, such as bubble-induced turbulence.
